Rigid boxes (also called set-up boxes) are thicker than regular folding cartons and do not fold or collapse. They are ideal to use when the package content is heavy and needs extra support, or when you want to promote a high perceived value for a product.
Rigid boxes are often wrapped to add more of a special effect. They come in a huge variety of styles, shapes and closure types, so you can customise and embellish the way you want to make them look and feel special.
You can use greyboard or wood as the base material. Greyboard contains several layers of recycled fibres that give the box its strength and distinctive properties.
How rigid box make?
Rigid boxes start off as a flat paperboard, usually at least 800gsm thick, where it is grooving. This steps need grooving machine. The dotted lines show where the paperboard will then be folded up.
The sides of the box are folded up and secured to form the base shape of the box. Once folded, you have the basic skeleton of your packaging.
The design is printed onto a sheet of paper (wrapping paper), it goes to lamination, and now other additional functions can be done, such as foil stamping or embossing. The wrapper will then self-adhesive on top of the paper.
The wrap hugs your box tightly and brings your hard case to life.
